Find Peace in this Frantic World

Practice Meditation and Mindfulness | Apply CBT Skills | Change Habits
Tuesdays| 6:15-8:00pm CST | Starts September 30 | 8 Weeks | On Zoom

Join us for a first-time journey into the best-selling book Finding Peace in a Frantic World by Mark Williams and Dr. Danny Penman.

While this course grew out of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, it’s offered in a welcoming, non-clinical setting. Whether you’re just beginning, you have an established practice, or you are returning to practice, you’ll find space here to slow down, explore mindfulness with curiosity, and see it through fresh eyes.

Whatever life throws at me, I’m OK …
I feel a lot more able to manage my thoughts, emotions and the stories I tell myself. I feel more at peace and grounded. Whatever life throws at me, I’m OK when I’m mindful.  An MBCT participant

I’ve learned how I can respond verses react
I’ve learned things about myself and how to recognize when I’m starting the downward spiral. I’ve become more mindful of situations as they arise and how I can choose to respond versus react. As a result, depression no longer controls my life. An MBCT participant

  • You can reap the benefits of this course if you can say “yes” to the criteria below and none of the reasons now might not be the right time apply.

    • If you are 18 or 80 years old or in between

    • Whether you are new to MBCT or have taken it before

    • Wherever you are on your healing journey

    • If you willingly commit to practice meditation at least 10 minutes a day most days at home between sessions (If you practice a few minutes several times a day, it is as effective as 20 continuous minutes)

    • Whether you have no experience or years of experience with meditation

    • If you have a mood or anxiety disorder as one of your diagnoses or just want to work on your “issues”

    • Class will be led via Zoom. You will need access to high-speed internet, a working laptop, computer or tablet with camera, speakers and microphone. A cell phone can work but is not recommended.

  • When you commit to participate, you promise to practice mindfulness at home daily, recognizing we are all human and will miss a day or two here and there.

Practice is essential to cultivate habits that reduce the suffering that we humans experience living in a frantic pressure cooker of a world.

    • Daily meditation

    • Moments of mindfulness and skill use throughout the day. These might include

      • Noticing urges, thoughts, emotions and body sensations as they arise

      • Mindful doing

      • Experiencing gratitude

      • Creating space between stimulus and response

      • Sitting with primary emotions and letting go of thoughts about emotions

Only meditation requires you to set aside time out of your daily schedule. You can meditate for 5+ minutes one time or three minutes, four times , with the same benefit.  With other parts of your home practice, you do what you already do every day, just mindfully.

While we hope you will commit to daily meditation practice, we understand that you will miss a day here and there. Our hope is that when you skip a day of meditation, you will practice self-compassion, not judgment.

  • What it costs and what you get for an experience that can change your life.

    • Total cost for class: $180 which you may pay all at once, or in three installments.

    • 8 weekly 1.45 hour group classes via Zoom

It’s what I’ve always wanted.
Seemingly out of nowhere, change happened inside me. I worry less and am content more often. I feel present in my everyday life. I’ve never felt like this before. It’s what I’ve always wanted.  An MBCT participant

… that’s what minds do.
My mind always wandered when I tried to sit silently. I’d get frustrated and judge myself so I stopped trying. Now I realize that’s what minds do. It’s all about practicing bringing my attention back to the present moment, not clearing my mind. An MBCT participant
